Why journalism/film making?
After working as a full-time fitness professional - teaching group fitness classes and also as a personal trainer - for the majority of my working life, I’ve decided to head in a new direction and forge a new career path towards news and sports journalism.
Tying into my fitness work, I played representative rugby league - NSW 2007-08 - and union a decade ago (winning 4 national titles as a Sydney representative) and I see those sports for women athletes now entering the mainstream media and I’d like to be involved as a journalist.
I’ve also won six medals at World Masters athletics championships and games - 4 silver and 2 bronze, with many finals (top 8 places) in between over 3 indoor and 2 outdoor championships and games.
As for my journalism - I also have a penchant for investigative journalism and I’ve branched out and done some work there.
I attained my Diploma of Journalism in 2017 and articulated to the Bachelor in 2018. I'm now a very proud graduate and alumna of Macleay College with both the Diploma and Bachelor of Journalism.
I produced multimedia content for the Women’s Game http://thewomensgame.com/author/caroline-layt-1203054 and Hatch http://hatch.macleay.net/author/claytmymacleay-edu-au/ and I’ve written for Star Observer http://www.starobserver.com.au/author/caroline-layt
I’ve now finished my own independent documentary on Rainbow Beach's Rainbow Stairs, "Is this Queensland in the 20s?" and its success is there for all to see, with it thus far being selected 16 times for Film Festivals including 3 Awards, a Finalist - 4 times and 2 times a Semi-Finalist.
Where this journey takes me, I’m not quite sure, but I’d like to produce more films about subjects and people who mainstream media baulk at, as their stories are interesting and deserve to be told.
I'd also like to produce films on sports people and the history of women's sports, in particular, in the near future.
As for me, one other thing: I’m a transitioned woman and I’m enjoying living as my authentic self; as a proud trans woman. Pronouns: She/Her
