Geno Marx has been a freelance film and video editor for several years and has worked in a variety of industries including commercial, industrial, music and film. He has worked with a diverse group of clients including Bon Secours Medical System, Edison Int’l, Hard Rock Hotel, IWI, Academi, and DynaCore Films.
Working as Editor and Producer on the independent feature film MAN IN A BOX (Winner Best Film at the Poconos Mountain Film Festival) he formed a collaborative relationship with several actors who would later star in CAPSIZED.
Scripting for CAPSIZED began several years before the real tragic events of the MV Sewol and was originally inspired by the capsizing of the MS Costa Concordia in 2012.
Written, Directed, Edited and Produced by Geno, CAPSIZED has been officially selected by festivals in Asia and the US, including Taos Shortz, Bare Bones Int’l and Rainier Film Festival. CAPSIZED has currently earned a total of 16 nominations including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Screenplay and Best Sound Design. The idea for “Capsized” began back in 2012 while watching news coverage of the capsized Costa Concordia. I remember thinking how terrible and tragic the event was and began formulating a unique approach to the story.
I presented the script to close colleagues and all of them fell in love with the characters, approach and story. This encouraged me to move forward with the project. Many were eager to participate and production plans began rapidly taking shape.
Shortly after starting pre-production, a cast member called me and frantically told me to turn on the news. As I watched the news coverage of the MV Sewol in Korea capsizing, I was shocked to discover eerie similarities to my script. The accounts of conversations with victims and their family via cell phones were poignant and captivating. This was confirmation that the approach and the direction the film “Capsized” was taking would fascinate any film audience.
While casting the role of “Stephanie,” I asked our lead actress, Hayley McLaughlin, what attracted her most to the role. She explained, “The tragic story of these characters could happen to anyone —‘Capsized’ will resonate with people around the world.”
