Call Tony

Call Tony is an experimental documentation of our personal kink histories as we relate to the Canadian Lesbian & Gay Archives, one another and community. Our creative process was in part shaped by the pieces of history that we did but mostly did not find at the archives. Call Tony is archival itself as it documents us as queer living kinksters exploring safety, healing, belonging and play. Working together closely on this video led to the recording of a dialogue rooted in the shared and differing identities embodied in our friendship.

Director Biography - Mée Rose, Wy Joung Kou

Wy Joung Kou is a multidisciplinary artist and a mixed-race, genderqueer, razor-wielding femme barber. As a chronically ill person they seek to cultivate a disability-arts focused practice that centres accessibility while exploring themes of grief, resilience, identity and healing. With the bulk of their artistic work being in installation, performance, poetry and ceramic/glass mosaic, they are new to video but have nonetheless been eager to jump in, get weird, and test the waters. They are excited to be creating collaborative content for their first video that reflects their current personal process of wonder, exploration and corruption as a wide-eyed kink newbie coming into community and Leather family.

Mée Rose is an artist working in many disciplines with a current practice that centres photography, video-making, and music creation. Their work explores themes around the queer body using erotic self-portraiture, and video. Mée has screened at festivals in Toronto, New York, San Francisco, Berlin, Buenos Aires, and Montreal. They collaborate on this project as a genderqueer femme switch with enough privilege to risk being out, and enough privilege to see some pieces of their history reflected in the archives. Having come up in Toronto’s queer and kink communities the past fifteen years, they feel lucky to have this opportunity to honour their experiences.

Director Statement

Our collaboration on this work provided an opportunity for technical skill-sharing, meaningful discussion, and witnessing and affirming one anothers’ artistic processes. We have built deeper intimacy between us as two players first coming to kink over a decade apart, and coming to kink from different places of privilege and oppression. With great reverence for what our kinky elders have established before us, Call Tony hopes to inspire conversation about what we, kinky elders of the future, imagine femmifesting as our own legacies.

Play. Piercing. Perversion. Plush.
Power. Power. Power.

Yours truly,
Two Filthy Femmes. xo
