CYCLE

Cycle is an experimental short film which contains physical theatrical elements. It is the presentation of another world created by the symbolic use of movements, among the familiar actions and abstract figures. It seeks an experimental film rhetoric with the cooperation of objects and elements of nature. Inspired by the systems that create the cycle, it aims to present different forms to the expressions that resist in the language. It is about the path followed, not the destination of a circular quest, which we accept as having no beginning and no end. It supports that a circular way is just a quest consisting of pauses.

Director Biography - Elif Okyay

My first step towards expressing myself through my body was when I started ballet at a young age. Alongside ballet, as other art fields started to attract my attention, I began my undergraduate education on performing arts and started to do interdisciplinary research. In the big city of Istanbul, where I was born and bred, as my love and respect for the nature I have longed for grew bigger each day, it became my source of inspiration for my ideas, projects and aesthetic concerns. While the idea of harmonizing with nature in my process shapes my works, I take the things that exist in nature and what they represent for me, as a reference. Today, in this new order of where the arts forcing the boundaries of their own spaces, I am also exploring the limits of my own body, my perception and being inspired by nature.
