HOANGF is a filmmaker hailing from Hanoi, Vietnam. Growing up in a city steeped in history and contemplation, he believes that Hanoi's atmosphere played a crucial role in shaping his creativity and storytelling perspective.
Although he didn't pursue formal academic studies in film, HOANGF's passion for cinema was ignited early on. His most vivid memory, his first touchpoint with film, is the excitement he felt as a kindergartener, being allowed to pick out a movie from the rental store with his mother to watch in the evenings. Those early encounters with Hollywood films nurtured a growing love for cinema, inspiring him to begin teaching himself filmmaking in high school. Throughout the years, he has taken on various roles in film production, from editing and cinematography to directing, constantly refining and perfecting his skills.
HOANGF’s filmmaking style is characterized by fast-paced storytelling, humor, and a strong connection to personal experiences. He draws inspiration from his own life, ensuring that every story he tells feels genuine and relatable. His influences range from legendary directors like Martin Scorsese, Stanley Kubrick, and Christopher Nolan to contemporary visionaries like Damien Chazelle, Edgar Wright, and Robert Eggers.
His short film Ex-Mas marked a turning point in his journey, solidifying his confidence as a storyteller and director. Currently, he is focused on narratives revolving around love and friendship—universal themes that resonate with audiences. However, looking ahead, HOANGF aims to delve into more complex psychological themes and, ultimately, make his way into feature filmmaking.
For HOANGF filmmaking isn’t just a career—it’s a passion, a way to unwind, and a means to connect with the world around him.
