Jordan Faniel is a 21 year old Black, Queer, filmmaker and actor. He was raised in Houston, Tx by a single mother and has always had a passion for creating. Jordan really realized his passion for filmmaking at a young age, but got the courage to become a filmmaker after seeing the film Moonlight and witnessing it's history making Best picture win. This made Jordan realize stories about people like him can be told and be seen as high art. He found his passion for acting after meeting the great actor Delroy Lindo at the age of 17. Jordan asked him " What should I do as a director" and Lindo responded with " Take acting classes". Ever since then Jordan has aspired to be a great actor, writer, and filmmaker. All of Jordan's are inspired by the works of Barry Jenkins, Wong Kar Wai, Xavier Dolan, Gregg Araki, and Greta Gerwig. These filmmakers along with Jordan Peele, Spike Lee, David Fincher, Marlon Riggs, and Sean Baker, all really laid the foundation for Jordan's perspective on film. He wants to tell inventive and nuanced stories about Black and Queer people that are usually never represented by mainstream cinema.
As I progress as a filmmaker I really want to explore themes of toxic masculinity and how that plays apart in queer expierences. With this film I wanted to show how someone who is incredibly ashamed of their identity ,and has a lot of internalized homophobia, can breed a painful situation that hurts everyone in their vicinity. Many queer people get involved with people who are closeted and expierence situations like this all the time. It’s only due to the homophobic world that we live in that forces people to hide like that.
