Director Biography - Zardosht Afshari

Zardosht Afshari was born and raised in Khuzestan province, Iran in 1982. He started by writing short stories and film scripts. His first short film "A Day with My Mother" was premiered at the 2014 Split International Film Festival. This independent short film played festivals in Iran, Rome, Taos of New Mexico, India and Spain.
He has BSc. in Mechanical Engineering from Amirkabir University of Tehran and M.A. in Dramatic Literature from University of Tehran, Iran.

Director Statement

The idea of my second short film “ Burning Smell of Stone” sparked a few years ago in my mind. By writing the script and directing it I tried to share this story in the medium of short film by others.
I collected all the costs of this short film from my friends and people around me who loved the story. So it's a completely independent film.
In this short film, as well as my first short film named “ A Day With My Mother” I tried to address the issues of women in Iranian society.
