Experiencing Interruptions?

Bunny Boi and the Submission

LOG LINE: Henry is interviewed by the soul of his future daughter in this psychedelic emo-comedy.

SYNOPSIS: Glum Henry, keeper of bunnies, heads out to a job interview at a nondescript office building. He’s not expecting to encounter Brit, a neon-pink receptionist, equal parts hilarious and terrifying, who sends Henry’s anxiety soaring. And he’s definitely not ready to meet his interviewer, Heather, a mysterious child-spirit in a grown-ass human form, who knows entirely too much about Henry’s life -- even the secrets he fights desperately to keep hidden from himself. Heather’s words manifest strange memories and visions inside her office. After a mind-bending emotional rollercoaster of an interview, Henry leaves the building befuddled. His dead car battery leads him to a bus stop, where a man with a small dog convinces him (by way of childish humor) that the bus may never come, and given the beauty of the day, he should just walk instead. Henry complies, and stumbles headlong into everything he’s ever wanted... Years later, Heather reappears in the eyes of his three-year-old daughter, Zelda.

Director Biography - Michael VQ

MICHAEL VQ / PRODUCER / DIRECTOR / EDITOR
https://www.michaelvq.com/
Michael VQ originally hails from Portland, Oregon, where he was raised in a working-class home by a health worker mother who was terrified that his artistic tendencies would leave him perpetually broke. These fears were not allayed when 20-something Michael became a professional street performer for three years, making music with garbage. Fortunately, he finagled a scholarship-fueled higher education, and is now a (working) director, writer, filmmaker, and composer in New Haven. He holds degrees in directing and sound engineering, and has an amazing wife, Adina, and a beautiful 4-yr-old daughter, Zelda, both of whom tolerate his restless creative tendencies that have taken over the majority of their home. Recent collaborators include Lupita Nyong’o, Titus Kaphar, Drake, Migos, Cardi B, The Flaming Lips, Du Yun, Daniil Trifonov, and many others. Michael also serves as the President of Titus Kaphar’s film production company, Revolution Ready, and was a co-producer, VFX designer, and creative lead on their debut film, Exhibiting Forgiveness.

Director Statement

Nowadays, it’s easy to forget how to play. In play, we have no need for a reward: the PLAY is the reward. It is cooperative as opposed to competitive. It is self-inventing, untethered to any rules of society. It is freedom… My daughter, through tantrums and fits of laughter, has demanded that I remember how to play, and it is the greatest gift I have ever been given. This film attempts to reveal, in some small way, the feeling of this remembrance, and the absurd and hilarious ways that a bright young mind can utterly eclipse all else.
