Arturo M. Merelo is a director, producer, screenwriter, editor, distributor, and educator. Trained in Communication and Film, he has directed fiction and experimental short films in the UK, Mexico, Italy, and the USA.
Among his main works as a director are The Idiot (2010), En la frontera (2018), and Quarume: Never Go Back (2018), selected and awarded at festivals such as Olbia FF, GIFF, Oaxaca FilmFest, FICAH, Key West FF, and Sunscreen FF. He has also produced and distributed projects such as Dos Opciones and Impermanence, by Galician filmmaker Gon Caride.
In Mexico, he has collaborated with advertising and audiovisual production companies, both as a creative and as a director. He has also worked as a professor of film history, storytelling, and directing at university level.
He is currently distributing his latest short films as director and producer: El Amor Adecuado, a fantastic-trash short, and Broken Clay Rainbow, an intimate piece filmed in California.
At the same time, as an executive producer, he played a key role in the adaptation project of Aura, by Carlos Fuentes, acquired by Netflix; and he is now developing Sal del Sueño, a Mexican feature film, to be shot in 2026.
He combines his creative work with the distribution and production of independent cinema in Mexico and the writing of theatrical and audiovisual projects.
