Bridget

Bridget is a short film about the life and death of Bridget Cleary
She was murdered by her husband in Ballyvadlea in the parish of Drangan/Cloneen as he believed her to be a fairy changeling and convinced her family and neighbours that she was a witch. This became known in 1895 as the last witch burning in Ireland and the story and the subsequent trial was covered the world over. Anne Williamson and Brian Clancy decided Bridget needed to be vindicated and the veil of shame and darkness that has been hanging over the tiny parish for 130 years was finally lifted - Also the grave of Bridget Cleary has now got a memorial plaque. Bridget was just 26 years old when she died a horrific death. She was buried late at night with no mourners. May she now rest in peace

Director Statement

Bridget is a project close to my heart and something I'm proud to have co scripted with Brian Clancy and produced and directed this short film about her life and death. I wanted it to be different and not like previous productions. I always felt that Bridget was treated badly and she was robbed of her dignity in life and also in death.
I an truly grateful to Diceman Productions for the wonderful cinematography which makes this film complete. The local amateur actors involved and everyone who made the film possible.
To Chris Kavanagh for the wonderful original song "The maid of old Cloneen "thank you
