Experiencing Interruptions?

Brazilian Fantasy

This film is an exercise made for the Academia Internacional de Cinema "creativity process" class using archive footage and editing to create relation between images to convey a message. In May 2019 a brazillian pro-bolsonaro mob ripped the banner "In Defense of the Education" from Federal University of Paraná , placed by activists and students (the situation got violent towards them later in that day) protesting in favor of public education and against the curtailment of expenditures of the Ministry of Education, which blocked 30% of the discretionary funds of universities and federal institutes. With this piece we tried to dream if a better outcome was even possible.

Director Statement

By the time we made this film, we didnt know how bad things could get and how relevant the film would become as a portrait of that time, almost a warning.
Now, after 2022, this film hit us in a very different way
I didn't really send it to real festivals or anything, it was never actually published. He was there forgotten in the background of the HD. Then I remembered it and rewatched it here haha
I believe that today, November 2022, is more than ever the right time to make it available
We didn't know what this day was experiencing for the country, and that it was a mere rehearsal for what was to come.
But I was still surprised and happy with the result of the film itself, which still in 2019 fortunately ended up being prophetic even if it was by instinct.
