Founded in the early 1950s, Brasiliana toured over 40 countries over three decades, bringing Afro-Brazilian cultural expressions to important stages around the world.

Joel Zito Araújo is a director, screenwriter, and producer known for addressing the theme of Black identity in Brazilian society. His work includes the book and film "A Negação do Brasil," (Denial of Brazil) which won the É Tudo Verdade festival in 2001, as well as the feature films "Filhas do Vento" (Daughters of the Wind, 2005), which won the Tiradentes Festival and eight Kikitos at the Gramado Festival, and "O Pai da Rita" (Rita's Father, 2022). As a documentarian, he is credited with the feature films "Cinderelas, Lobos e um Príncipe Encantado" (Cinderellas, Wolves, and a Charming Prince, 2009), "Raça" (Race, 2013), and "Meu Amigo Fela" (My Friend Fela, 2019), which won Best Film of the Diaspora at FESPACO in Burkina Faso, the Special Jury Prize at the É Tudo Verdade Festival in 2019, and Best Documentary at the Pan African Film & Arts Festival in 2020 in Los Angeles, USA. His recent projects include the documentary series "PCC – Poder Secreto" (PCC – Secret Power, HBO Max, 2022), which reached the Top 1 on the channel in Brazil and Top 2 in Latin America, and "A Ética do Silêncio" (The Ethics of Silence, Canal Curta!, 2023). Joel Zito Araújo was honored as the "Screenwriter of the Year" in 2022 by the Brazilian Association of Screenwriters, receiving the Eduardo Abelin trophy at the Gramado Festival.
