Ruairí McNamara is a filmmaker from Co. Offaly, Ireland. After graduating from the National College of Art and Design with a degree in illustration, Ruairí went on to pursue film. He has produced the short documentary 'Photon Wrangler', which won the best documentary at the Dublin University Film Festival, directed a segment for the short documentary 'Personal Space', winner of the Best Short Documentary award at the 2022 Richard Harris Film Festival, and has written and directed the short film 'The Archivist" which played at the 2022 Waterford Film Festival.
I created this film, Bog Bodies, as a combined reaction to the Covid-19 lockdowns and to reaching a stage in my life where everyone I knew in my life was either emigrating or encouraging me to emigrate. I wanted to create a film set in the specific location I grew up, the bogs and fields that surround my house, and create a contrast between these wide open spaces and the digital world that is taking over our lives. Peter Claffey and Alex Conlon created a great rapport between each other, wonderfully portraying the strained relationship between siblings that can occur when one starts developing faster than the other. Without their talent and commitment, there would be no film.
