Bodrog
The Old Bodrog is opening its gates this year for the most alternative residence from the whole county. Artists from everywhere are applying, but only some will get accepted and, in the end, only a few will manage to return home. Bodrog is not only an abbandoned village from Arad county, it’s also a narative rollercoaster, a tough to figure out nightmare, where reality gets interlaced with figments, getting harder and harder to discern it.
A combination between ‘found footage’ and ‘mockumetary’, Bodrog is madness, a narrative labyrinth about sacrifices, forgotten lore ressurected over a shot of moonshine and mythological creatures from the bottoms of the Mures’ river.

Salajan Mihai-Eugen is a Romanian multimedia artist and independent film director. Frequent collaborator with Romanian multimedia art group Kinema Ikon, he did various works of video and multimedia art while also creating experimental and cinematic electronic music under the moniker 'Selfmademusic'.
He made his film debut co-directing the short film 'Libelula' with Adelina Bullibasa in 2015. 'Libelula' won several awards including best short film award at altcineAction! in 2016.
Bodrog, a love letter to the works of Algernon Blackwood and H.P. Lovecraft is his first feature film debut and it was released in 2018.
Bodrog is a passion project. Me and my friends wanted to capture the rawness of this place near the town we live in. It's a village few people know about and a bit complicated to get to. There's a giant wild forest along the river and one of the actors got a small place there. We came up with this idea of a freestyle art residency in this place, we called it 'The Last Residency', like this is the last place you visit. I was always fascinated by the mythology surrounding remote places and we tried to find out if the locals have any while injecting some of our ideas as well, in the form of this gigantic catfish living at the bottom of the river.
We also wanted to go above and beyond in making this a very unique and risky experience. We love italo-horror from the 70's, so we wanted to have music and sound design play a major role, as far as having a big portion of the movie to only consist of music.
Even with Bodrog being a passion project, everyone worked very close on making the best out of our no-budget movie. From the original score by veterans Makunouchi Bento, to the great poster design by Octavian Belintan, all the people involved supported us 100%.
Hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it and we hope to see you in Bodrog.
