Bodies that Dance Alone

This piece explores the body in movement as a system of control and liberation, using artificial intelligence to generate synthetic choreographies that challenge the oppressive norms of society and dance practice. A performer trains an AI model with his gestures and gives them movement, creating abstract sequences that deform and multiply their reality. These choreographies blur the boundaries between the human and the artificial, criticizing the hierarchies and exclusions of traditional dance. The work celebrates the diversity of bodies and languages, proposing a new paradigm in which imperfection and indeterminacy are acts of resistance.

Director Biography - Petra

Petra (México, 1993) es una artista que investiga la intersección entre cuerpo y virtualidad, cuestionando y creando diversos imaginarios con imágenes en movimiento. La experimentación juega un papel fundamental en su obra, inspiradx en la naturaleza, y observando su entorno, descubre interesantes espectros de espacialidad, entre lo mainstream y lo digital. En su trabajo utiliza diferentes tecnologías como la programación creativa, el aprendizaje automático, la visión por ordenador, la animación, la performance, la danza en pantalla y el movimiento expandido, entre otras formas. Su obra ha sido expuesta, entre otros lugares, en Bitcoin Unleashed Amsterdam, ASVOFF 16, Miami Art Week, Art Crush Gallery, Plexus Projects, China International Conference of Science and Education Producers, Super Chief Gallery NFT, Free The Kitsch Festival, MIVA Festival, Museo Chiapas de Ciencia y Tecnología, London Fashion Week, NFT Festa, NFT NYC, etc. Su trabajo como performer lo ha llevado a colaborar con compañías, encuentros y festivales de artes escénicas como Nadére, Arts Vivants (CAN), Baal Dance Company (ES), Encuentro Nacional de Danza, Festival Extremadura, Festival Onesimo González, FIDCCDMX e instituciones como INBAL, SHCP, Secretaría de Cultura, Alianza Francesa México, también es miembro de distinguidos Organismos Autónomos Descentralizados (DAO). En 2016, Petra comenzó a digitalizar su obra y actualmente forma parte de diferentes proyectos en el cruce de criptografía, arte generativo y nuevos medios.
