Director Biography - Ellis Kayin CHAN

Ellis Kayin Chan (B. 1990 ) is a Barcelona-based animation director and visual artist. Graduating from Gobelins, l'école de l'image in Paris, he delves into themes like life, death, memories, and reality through his artwork. By merging traditional media techniques with animation, Chan creates emotionally captivating pieces.


Notably, Chan's co-directed debut short film <Monsoon Blue> (夏夢迴) won The Best Animated Short film by Golden Horse film festival in 2023 and the Grand Prix in DigiCon6 Asia. Chan’s another co-directed film <A GONG> (阿公)," which received critical acclaim and numerous awards, including Best Student Short Film at Monstra Lisbon 2019 and Special Distinction at SICAF2019 Korea.

Director Statement

Based on a poem I wrote after my sister's passing, the creation of this film serves as my refuge from the unfathomable pain. Two and a half years of independent production have culminated in a realization - Death is not terrifying; what is terrifying is the loss of hope - and this is exactly why my older sister took her own life.

We will, in the course of our lives, each in our unique way, pursue the same elusive bluebird, seeking inner peace and happiness.

最初創作《離風藍蘭》是為了擺脫那失去至親，無法言喻的痛苦。歷時兩年半的獨立創作，體會到死亡並不恐怖，恐怖的是沒有了希望－－這正正是胞姐自殺的原因；我們終將用一生的時間，以自己的方式追求同一個如夢如真的藍鳥，尋找內心的平靜和幸福。
