Blue Moanin'

Allen Brooks revisits Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s 1974 track 'Blue Moanin’ with a powerful new cover and music video. Having spent decades touring the US and performing alongside legendary acts, Brooks channels his experience into a version that leans more heavily into rock than the blues-inspired original. With guitar contributions from Keith Maples and Thomas VanDeven, saxophone by Mariano Power, drums by Mariano Vega, and mixing by Andrey Paschenko, the track emerges as a global collaboration. The result is both a tribute to Brooks’ musical roots and a fresh reimagining that underlines his lifelong dedication to rock. Brooks directed the music video in the styles of Monty Python mixed with flavors of the 1927 film, Metropolis which delivers collage-like aesthetics with cut-out photographs and illustrations to create surreal animations that splice together abstract imagery.

Director Statement

While directing the music video for Blue Moanin', I attempted to mix the stylings of a colorized ‘Metropolis' (1927) film vibe combined with Monty Python collage-like aesthetics, cut-out photographs and illustrations to create surreal animations that splice together abstract imagery. I graduated from The New York Film Academy (NYFA) in 2010 and used that knowledge and everything I have learned since to create my music videos. I am very grateful and thankful to everyone who has helped me along my journey. Much Love! - Allen Brooks
