Blue Hope - Marine Renewables
The natural world is in crisis. The devastating effects of climate change are powered by our burning of fossil fuels for energy, yet we also need to power our lives... what is the solution?
In this punchy short, we explore the exciting potential for marine renewables, discovering how scientists protect marine mammals, invent new cutting-edge technology, work with giant indoor wave tanks and how this approach offers new hope in the fight against climate change.

Natasha Phillips is an early-career director based in Cornwall, specialising in short, documentary films. After beginning her career as a scientist, her transition into film came through a passion for the communication of complex issues through engaging storytelling. She is a National Geographic Explorer, drawing on her endless curiosity and a forensic eye for detail to direct documentaries exploring fascinating stories from new scientific discoveries, to ancient history and modern social issues.
As a marine scientist turned documentary filmmaker, I aim to combine science and film, exploring and sharing new insights into the natural world. This film offers exclusive access behind the scenes of cutting-edge scientific research, exploring exciting new ways to combat climate change. By engaging with differing expert voices (biologists, engineers, developers, conservationists), we can see the dedicated and passionate people driving this technological revolution.
I would love for our film to be selected, to share this new research and much-needed optimism with a wide audience. Through this short, we offer new hope for a brighter future.
