Bloom

This is a cyber-punk treatment of Adam & Eve in the 2020 pandemic.

When two people meet, the heart seeks freedom from boundaries. Having no boundaries may feel like freedom but without them, there are no shapes, images, identities or meaning. When these two become aware of that, how do they go about their relationship, was the forbidden fruit worth it ? “

2020 has been a year of change and learning. It made us take a hard look at ourselves and start afresh. It has also been a year of remarkable instances that needs to be documented; a new beginning for everyone. So, why remember just for its adversaries, when it also brought to us many joys and surprises? A bunch of friends and I decided to capture the year the way we would like to remember it to our children.

Wasn’t it surreal for the entire world to be sitting home, doing household chores, spending time with loved ones, reconnecting with family, reconsidering career choices, evaluating old relationships and finding new companions to pass through this phase?

Falling in love during this period was a fascinating idea, and the very thought of two people interacting during the lockdown made me draw parallels with the Garden of Eden. It made me wonder how Adam and Eve would have enjoyed their freedom in the garden - laid back and without inhibitions. But not for too long. Having no boundaries may feel like freedom but without them, there are no identities. After they ate the apple, they hid themselves in the bushes. But the knowledge they acquired didn’t just keep them hidden, it also dared them to come out and find a new life together.

Isn’t the pandemic much like the Garden of Eden? As much as the initial excitement was that surrounded this time of well deserved forced vacation leading us to finding new hobbies and other outlets, it did drive home the fact that we could not go on like this forever. The helplessness put us in a slump until we finally understood that the only way out is through. We found ourselves coming out with hope. A dream for a new life. BLOOM.
