Eva is a young Northern Irish documentary filmmaker. Her love of film has quickly evolved into an interest in the possibilities of film to capture and portray real moments of real people. Her work is characterised by a devotion to the authentic in storytelling and tackling subjects that matter to real people. This film is inspired by the negative attitudes Eva has discerned towards women’s fertility and health rights, particularly in Nothern Ireland. Her work is therefore dedicated to making sure all said voices are heard.
Bloodshed is an attempt to start a conversation about menstruation. In a team of passionate female filmmakers, with a bucket load of personal experiences, we feel that this is an important story to tell. After quickly realising we had a lifetime of stories between a crew of just three, it became clear that the weight of these stories shouldn’t be just ours to hold. The responsibility of dealing with intense menstrual-related issues young, alone, and in the dark is not a tradition we want to continue. Hopefully hearing these stories may lighten the burden.
