Experiencing Interruptions?

Blood Mansion Trailer (1983)

A retro-inspired trailer for a non-existent horror movie purportedly shot in the early 80s and set in the late 60s. Part genre exercise and part love letter to classic horror, the movie is about a trans woman who attempts to navigate her relationship with a local artist while dealing with a vengeful spirit in her new home.

As the trans author of this work, the project deals with the deconstruction of my own dysphoria in a body haunted by cisnormative expectations (living in a "house" that is associated with blood for some, the spectre emerging from the mirrors signifying body dysmorphia and an oppressive cisnormative beauty culture, patriarchal trauma triggering cycles of violence, etc.).

The trailer, which was created in conjunction with a soundtrack album, can be downloaded at https://gardengate.bandcamp.com and comes with a .pdf detailing each scene its associated song accompanies. It is intended to be the first of a trilogy exploring genre as it relates to horror and queerness (the second, currently in production, being a western monster movie, and the third being a new age folk horror).
