Director Biography - Neda Tamimi

Neda Tamimi was born in 1986 and received a diploma in math and physics. After finishing high school, she entered the art university and began her studies in set and costume design. After completing her studies in 2008, she began working as a professional film designer, focusing on set and costume design. In 2014, she entered the master's program in theater direction at the Islamic Azad University in Tehran. In 2016, she won the award for best costume design for her work on the play "Roshan" at the 28th Fajr Theater Festival.
Around the same time, she began her master's thesis project, which focused on distancing techniques in cinema and was based on David Fincher's film "Fight Club." Her practical project, also titled "Fight Club," was performed in Tehran's Hafez Theater. This marked a shift in her career focus from film design to directing. She declined offers for various film design projects and focused on creating her second directorial work.
In 2019, she directed the play "Not Available in Your Country" at the Divar-e-Chaharom Theater in Tehran. The play was nominated for the Best Play award at the Fajr Theater Festival in the same year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, two years passed without any new performances. However, in March 2022, she premiered her latest work, "Gathering," which was performed at the Hafez Theater. The play was similar to a cinema experience, according to most of its viewers. The previous show, "Not Available in Your Country," also had the same format. "The Wrestler Club," whose fate is already known, is an adaptation of a novel that has a famous film adaptation as one of the most successful in the history of cinema. Neda Temimi also premiered her first short film is called "Black Hole."

Director Statement

The script of “Black Hole” is full of mysteries. All those mysteries in addition to an unexpected ending were the main reasons that inspired me to make this film. However, aside from the form, there was sympathy between me and the script in the content, as well. The main character of the script is a man who suffered from acute psychotic disorder due to frequent family conflicts, however, from another point, this script is about being a
woman.
In the first draft, the main story of the script was only focused on the psychological problems of the main character of the film. Problems caused by family anomalies. But since the beginning of the movement of women, life, and freedom in Iran, the main concept of the work, both for me and the scriptwriter, became a little different. Little by little, traces of the connection between the political and social repressions of the society and the theme of the Black Hole script appeared to us. The repression started in the past and has continued until today. This repression is not limited only to the ruling political system, but it is hidden in the lower layers of society, it is hidden and sometimes obvious in the subconscious of most people in the Middle East. Like the
father figure, in the Black Hole script, a man who violently objects to the way his wife dresses, and his wife, a woman who, despite being aware of these issues, fights against it. Nevertheless, both of them are unaware that the result of this marriage will be a child with a psychotic disorder. Finally, the focus of the script shifted from family to society. As a result, with this social approach, we started film production.
