Black Care

A short documentary that tells the story of Herman Smitty Smith, the sole proprietor of “Smitty’s Barbershop” in Virginia that has been a cornerstone in the Falls Church Community since it opened in 1964. Customer interactions, brimming with joy and pride, along with the haircut process, done with care, unveil the heart and essence of this barbershop, revealing what Black Care truly is.

John Monaco is a Junior Student at Duke Ellington School of the Arts in the Cinematic Arts Department. He is a graduate of the Tisch Future Filmmakers Workshop at New York University and is passionate with regard to all aspects of filmmaking.
