Matthew Phillips is a passionate and aspiring filmmaker who is diligently carving out his niche in the competitive world of cinema. Currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree in digital filmmaking through The Los Angeles Film School's online program, he blends academic knowledge with practical skills. His hands-on experience as a production assistant has already allowed him to play a vital role in the filmmaking process. Notably, he contributed to a project that achieved remarkable success, clinching 1st place and receiving the coveted Audience Choice Award at the One Night Stand Film Festival in Kansas City, MO. This accomplishment not only reflects his dedication but also his growing reputation in the film industry.
I chose this film because it draws from my own past experiences. My goal was for viewers not only to witness the struggles of marriage but also to understand the journey of finding ways to fix the issues without jumping to the idea of divorce. One of the challenges we faced during production was securing the right talent for certain roles in the film. We ultimately had to remove one character from the film as we could not find the right person for it. Additionally, the lack of a dedicated crew meant that I took on the bulk of the responsibilities myself. Working with the talented actors and actresses was a rewarding experience; they were not only patient with my direction but also proactive in suggesting ways to enhance our scenes. As a result, the final film evolved beyond the original script, underscoring the importance of adaptability in the face of unexpected changes. This experience has equipped me with valuable insights for future projects, as I now understand the necessity of thorough organization and planning before shooting begins.
