BINAURAL GLASS
Binaural Glass takes us on a mesmerising, transcendent trip: mysterious and otherworldly. These viscous substances set in strange yet familiar scapes, in resonance with the granular stretched vocals, strings and binaural beating.

London based indie filmmaker, director and video editor, Shelley Hopkins, specialises in experimental films and music videos. Her work is do with setting up (mis-en-scéne) of an ambiguous yet unique space caused by the use of macro-lens technology to interrogate real substance. The resulting abstractions, sometimes slow moving and entropic, constantly shift under the influence of their own sublimations and reveal the movement of time and matter and thus also an uncanny sense of the prehistoric. Shelley's interest in contemporary music also comes to play a role here, as the videos have explored "sound substance' not only as ambient recording, but also to augmenting pieces of music.
"Binaural Glass was made in collaboration with composer Carly Paradis after we met on a transcendental meditation retreat on creativity. Canadian born Carly Paradis is RTS winning and BAFTA nominated for Line of Duty for BBC. Binaural Glass is from her recent solo album, Nothing is Something. This is my first collaboration and directorial debut. My love of macro moving images all started with a pot of marmite, which opened up a new way of seeing and filming substances which speak of scapes and have their own filmic language, inviting the viewer to engage on a more instinctive level. Are these mesmerising substances taking us on a visual journey? Does the sound of vibration affect this matter? Are they getting excited, resonating with spatial sound?"
