Katarzyna Nowak-McNeice is a posthumanist scholar and artist, whose works intersect the lines of post-anthropocentrism, feminism and animal studies. Bilateral Symmetry is her third film.
William McNeice is a writer and director of theatre and film. His work ranges from comedic satire to horror and drama. Bilateral Symmetry is his third collaboration with Katarzyna Nowak-McNeice.
Bilateral Symmetry is composed almost entirely in chiaroscuro: figures surfacing from near-total darkness under a single, rationed light — turned away, hooded, half-dissolved in shadow, each face withheld as much as it is revealed. That darkness is also the film's subject, a study in confusion and sorrow, in the sense of being lost in a world at once familiar and terribly unknown.
