Director Biography - Zara Burdon Yeates

Zara is an actor, writer, and director from Dublin. Having trained in screen acting in the Bow Street Academy and recently completed her BA in Film and TV Production, where she produced, wrote and directed her first short film "Between Two Tides". Passionate about exploring the complex moments of the human experience and bringing these stories to life whether in front of the camera, or behind the scenes. This year Zara will be focusing on completing her MA in Screenwriting in IADT.

Director Statement

Between Two Tides is an exploration of the complexities of the human experience, focusing on love, female relationships, and the bonds that tie us.

As both writer and director, I aimed to portray the characters' predicaments with empathy, creating a subtle and reflective tone that highlights the silent struggles that often go unnoticed in our daily lives.

One of the most challenging aspects of this project was balancing my roles as actor/director. The mental shift required to navigate these dual roles was immense. However, these challenges turned out to be the most rewarding parts of the process. They pushed me to think creatively and collaborate closely with my cast and crew. Despite being a student project, the dedication and support from the cast and crew were unparalleled, elevating the project and bringing my vision to life.

I hope that Between Two Tides resonates with audiences and sparks meaningful conversations. My hope is for viewers to walk away with the question of “what would I do?”, and perhaps even see a part of themselves reflected in the story.
