Director Biography - Michael Ashton

With the excitement of a successful day on set as a co-star, coupled with coming home and the desire to tell stories exactly how I've envisioned them, Is something very unique, and equally as powerful. Betty's is the first short film I have directed.

Director Statement

I first stood on a stage in 9th grade, in Prattville, Alabama. It makes sense I wanted to recite a Forrest Gump monologue for my first at bat as an actor. When writing Betty's, I had all the visuals playing on repeat as I penciled in the words. Every detail, from the type of booze the priest was drinking,, to the mechanics of a blood gag. How this would be put this to film? I realized to make this the best thing I could, something I want to watch, I needed a support system. With each member of the cast and crew reaching their hands into the pot, we were able to execute the best we could on a vision. That vision was singular with pen and pad, and now, a steaming locomotive and nothing but prairie. It was a beautiful collaboration. it became something others like me could be apart of. That was when I felt the most euphoric. Just like the first time I stepped onto a stage, probably, maybe ... not far from Greenbo.
