Beth's Birthday

João is an eccentric 30 something year-old men, that splits his time between a telemarketing job and his true passion, playing with dolls. Beth is his favorite doll and on her birthday, João serves tea to her three friends: Bianca, an old Barbie, Benedita, a Susi fiancee and Bruna, a black Barbie. After a day of work, João arrives home and is scared by a horror scene. Beth is mutilated, drowned in a cup of tea. João initiates an interrogatory with the other three dolls to find out who is responsible for the crime.

Director Biography - Dévra Taboada, Gabriela Roman

Dévra Taboada is an artist, art director, producer and director. With a bachelor's degree in Audiovisual at Centro Universitário Senac, was first art assistance for the film "A Filosofia na Alcova" (2017) (Philosophy in the Alcove), produced by theater company Os Satyros; art director and original voice for the short film "Histórinhas Coloridas, por uma infância sem preconceitos" (2018) (Colorful stories: for an unprejudiced childhood), fomented project by the Contest for the Promotional of Cultural Expression with LGBT thematic - ProAC. Your realisation "Mon Film" (2017), complement of your monograph research "A escrita fílmica de si em Maya Deren e Agnès Varda: caminhos de uma emancipação cinematográfica" (The filmic writing of himself in Maya Deren and Agnès Varda: ways of a cinematographic emancipation), was a key point for her to start independent productions, after dedicated it for Agnès Varda and correspond by letter with her. O Aniversário de Bete (2019) (Beth's Birthday) is her first short film as director and producer.

Gabriela Roman is an artist, director and screenwriter, with a bachelor's degree (2013) in Arts and Communication (Theatre and Performance Art). Gabriela has worked with educational art and performance since 2010, having created original performances and also performed in other artists' works. In 2015, she studied Screenwriting with Phil O'Shea at City Lit and Directing at Raindance Film Centre, both in London. In the same year, Gabriela participated on London Screenwriters' Festival. She worked as screenwriter for Nara Sakarê's acting for camera workshop in São Paulo's University, that resulted in the medium length film "Under Pressure", exhibited on MIS (Museum of Image and Sound of São Paulo). Gabriela has also studied Screenwriting in AP43, with André Meirelles Collazzi. She is the screenwriter and co-director of Beth's Birthday, and she currently works on the photo performance project 2015-05-21 22:25:51 Thu.
