Beside Myself

Finn O’Connell is a filmmaker and Cinematographer based out of Milwaukee Wisconsin. Growing up a dancer, Finn has directed that creative pursuit into experimental narratives focused on identity, environment, and non-linear storytelling interpreted through movement and body. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in December of 2022 through a major in film production and a minor in journalistic studies at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. Finn has been able to experiment with his craft with both independent and commissioned ventures creating short films, video installations, dance exhibitions, music videos, advertisements, etc.
Finn won recent recognition with his freshman short film "Believe You Me." An experimental landscape film centered on fleeing the cold and lifeless midwestern landscape.
Finn is currently honing his craft as an AV Technician and Projectionist at John Ridley’s NO Studios Milwaukee.
I grew up the youngest of four brothers. A 10-year difference between us all left me alone. As the child of a mature and fracturing family, I had to become callus far too early.
My father left, and my siblings became my father figures. Delinquency became a common trait among us. The violent cycles of dysfunction were passed down. The love shared between us all was life-saving, but as we continue to mature and separate I'm not sure what it all meant.
