Bernice
A tenacious vigilante in a pink balaclava stops at nothing to burglarise homes and sprinkle goofy magical love wherever she tiptoes. Until she’s beaten at her own game…
Embracing her grief and stepping forward in silliness and kindness, the only thing Burglar Bernice is stealing is people's hearts. But is hers about to be stolen too?
From first time filmmaker, Madeleine Wighton, comes the romantic comedy thriller, Bernice. Created by a cast and crew from over eight different nationalities, many of whom identify as women or non-binary, Bernice playfully explores the superpowers of love and hope in the face of hardship.
The cast includes Tai Hara, known for Home and Away and award-winning Colin From Accounts, and Bump's rising star, Ava Cannon.

Madeleine Wighton is an actor, filmmaker, and silly goose based on Gadigal and Wangal land.
As a filmmaker, Mads wrote, directed, and produced the wholesome rom com thriller, Bernice, in which she plays the goofy titular character alongside Home and Away and Colin From Account's Tai Hara. She produced and starred in the film, Cadence, written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Stephanie Troost and cinematographer, Roger Stonehouse (Birdeater; SXSW). She plays unhinged Elaine who has a passion for dance and discipline in The Detention Diaries, now in long-form development of which she is also a writer.
As an actor, Madeleine plays the vibrant Meadow in ABC's AACTA-nominated The PM's Daughter S2. She breaks Superwog's heart in their most recent webseries with millions of views by fans across the globe, and can be seen as the lead in multiple short films. She regularly performs on stages on Gadigal Land as “a standout” (Theatre Thoughts, 2022 & 2023) in shows such as Nails Must Be Kept Short, and The Mystery of Edwin Drood. Last year Madeleine toured Australia in the historical play, Forgotten. Madeleine has written and starred in her own one-woman shows including, A Life Half-Lived: The Natalie Wood Story, and can be seen in a handful of TVCs across Australia.
Madeleine literally stops to smell the roses, loves cows with a passion, and believes mermaids are real. Her vivacious zest for life is contagious but you know she shines so brightly because of the darkness she has seen.

Co-director, Tony Gardiner, is an ACS accredited and award-winning cinematographer and ADG nominated director. Tony has worked as both director and/or cinematographer on Fremantle's PM's Daughter S2, Heat, Neighbours, and Channel 7's Home and Away. He loves to encourage and work with up and coming filmmakers.
“I am a huge fan of taking my work seriously, and myself not at all. After attending too many unexpected funerals, I deeply feel the brevity of life and want to use my work as a way of encouraging life to the full and acknowledging the fact that searing grief and resplendent joy can be (and often are) felt at the exact same time.
I love to tell stories that inspire empathy, hope, and laughter.
This film is a wholesome comedy overflowing with goofy chaotic warmth. It aims to bring a momentary taste of the light that is still possible. It reminds us of the enduring power and magic of kindness (and silly goosery).
Life is way too short and precious – let’s laugh at frivolity, love our people as aggressively as possible, and live with audacious hope.”
