BENVINDA
In a disquietingly near future, Benvinda, a young immigrant, is blocked at Lisbon Airport's passport control, a victim of a bureaucratic zeal weaponized for exclusion by the new far-right government.
To enter the country, she must undergo countless exams and reassessments, where legal and procedural norms are perverted by extremist ideologies of morality, and the scientific foundations of medicine are distorted by conservative notions of society and customs.
During this process—efficiently designed for submission, humiliation, and dehumanization—Benvinda encounters various characters who, knowingly or not, are part of the machinery of this new—or perhaps merely renovated—repressive system. Whether out of pure conviction or opportunism; distraction, indifference, or cynicism; cowardice or mere exhaustion, they all surrender to the routine of the absurd.
Ultimately, it will be the system's discretionary power that determines Benvinda's future.
But what if the system has flaws?
