This video was filmed, directed and edited by director Martin Gallegos in its entirety in Charles Town, West Virginia. This song is a powerful ballad with a powerful message of hope for all humankind, much needed hope in these grueling times. Martin Gallegos is a pianist and composer, with a recently discovered love and passion for making films.

Director Biography - Martin Eduardo Gallegos Noya

In the same fashion as the great Neil Young, pianist turned film director Martin Gallegos feels comfortable as long as he is making art, whether he is playing the piano keys, or shooting a video. Unlike Young, though, he uses his real name in both realms.

First-time filmmaker, Peruvian-born Gallegos came to the USA on a scholarship to study a Master of Music degree, and is currently pursuing a Doctoral degree that specializes in accompanying and coaching singers. Not surprisingly, and because of his enthrallment with Quentin Tarantino's films, especially the music choices in his films, he decided to start making music video clips, armed only with two small cameras that fit in his pocket.

In 2022, Gallegos completed the music video for the song "Beneath Dark Days", performed by his wife, singer songwriter Liza Oliver, and composed by his lifelong friend, guitarist Julio Castro. Of course, Gallegos could not resist the urge to be a part of the music making, and recorded the piano part in the song.

In the director's own words, "Beneath Dark Days” is a song of hope for all humankind, much needed hope in these grueling times.

Director Statement

Since 2020 our world has become a very challenging (to say the least) place for us all. We witness tragedy after tragedy and there seems to be no truce.

In the “Beneath Dark Days” video, singer songwriter Liza Oliver's lyrics "Hold on, hold out, I can find a way through doubt" and "all we're left to do is try" aim to reach everyone's hopeless hearts with the hope which we are so much in need. If we have no hope, we have nothing.

For some strange (but pandemic-statistically normal) reason, the years of 2020 and 2021 have brought an affliction to Liza's vocal cords and a tendinosis to my right arm, preventing me to play the piano in a normal fashion... but we have hope that we will eventually recuperate, as the world will eventually be beneath these grueling “dark days”.

Hope is what keeps us going, and we must never give up, never... that is the message I want to convey.
