Behind My Doors
Anna, a 14-year-old girl, has to adapt to the arrival of her new stepfather, who forces her to give up her bedroom to turn it into his study. She is then relocated to the most neglected and rundown room in the house. The stepfather's awful manners and the increasingly distant relationship with her mother worsen the situation. Anna's new bedroom unleashes supernatural events that gradually affect the entire house, including Anna herself.

Damian Navarro-Vaca is an emerging filmmaker from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, specializing in screenwriting and directing. After completing a film production program at the Department of Image and Sound (DIS) at the University of Guadalajara (UdG), he pursued a degree in Audiovisual Media with a focus on Digital Filmmaking at the University of Audiovisual Media CAAV.
Throughout his career, he has participated in various courses, workshops, and seminars focused on screenwriting, directing, and film production, taught by esteemed professionals from the Mexican film industry. Some of these programs have been supported by the Jalisco Film Commission, Filma Jalisco, where he is listed in the Production Services Registry and the Directory of Professionals of Jalisco.
Damian has a strong focus on the use of genre as a tool to create bold, transgressive stories that explore the complexities of human nature. With this in mind, he founded his production company, CANNAVA CINEMA (commercially known as MU CINEMA), to develop projects for film, television, streaming platforms, and various other narrative formats.
Since directing his short film Behind My Doors, which served as his graduate thesis project, he has been developing a feature-length film set in the same narrative universe, alongside other long-format projects.
What is fear? Why do we tell stories? And why do we love watching horror stories on the big screen? As a filmmaker and storyteller, these questions have always lingered in my mind, serving as the driving force behind my exploration of a unique narrative style through cinematic language.
Behind My Doors stems from my deep love for the horror genre, especially in film. This passion arose from the joy of being transported by a different kind of story and realizing how these films could make such a profound impact, not only shaking my emotions but also affecting my senses, feelings, and personal understanding of who I am as a human being. Over time, and through various stages of my life, I have come to understand that horror is not just exciting and addictive, but also a narrative, artistic, and dramatic vehicle that allows us to look deeply into our own being. Fear is one of those emotions that reminds us we are alive, confronting us face to face with what we do not want—or cannot—see.
Behind My Doors is a story in which, through horror as a parable to understand life, we embark on a narrative journey that invites us to experience the characters, situations, and elements with the subtext that lies within each of them. Every aspect of the short film has been crafted to reflect on the consequences of humanity's darkest actions. Much like films such as Mama, Relic, Hereditary, and The Babadook, Behind My Doors fits into an evolution of the horror genre that engages with our contemporary fears and anxieties. It once again proves that horror is not just a cinematic genre, but a narrative context capable of enveloping human drama with as much passion as any pure drama, granting it significant cultural and artistic value.
