Becoming Bennett

In today's time, we seldom listen to others around us. I even find myself speaking out with a strong opinion to be right... and pushing my ideology on those around me.
I say this because I was asked to teach a student as part of an internship to get them ready for the world that awaits. But this was no ordinary student, this was a friend of mine, someone that I actually watched grow up since childhood, someone that I admired as an artist, that was making a courageous decision to stand up for what they believe in and become something that others may not understand. This was one of the rare moments where the student had more to teach than the teacher. This was the moment to be quiet and listen.
There was no need for a four-month internship... I had nothing to teach... but a lot to learn from this person. It was time to sit down, turn on a camera, and let myself and the world around me learn from the wiser of us all. So one light was turned on, one camera pressed record, and one human being took one take and poured out their soul to give us all a valuable lesson... sometimes we must be quiet, sometimes we must admit our ideas are not the same as others, sometimes we must realise we are all different... and somewhere beyond those differences... our human needs are all the same.
