A theatremaker, Jenna has spent most of her career in Toronto’s indie theatre scene, but came to Calgary four years ago to take on the role of Artistic Associate at Theatre Calgary where she worked in new play development. She believes in kindness, rigour, and honesty in her creative process. Most recently, Jenna directed Nicolas Billon’s Iceland for Theatre Calgary, she trained in puppetry at the Banff Puppet Intensive, and she had the pleasure of being the dramaturg in residence for YOUth Riot --a creative writing program for queer youth. She is extremely grateful for Herland’s support and guidance on her first short, Bearcat.
Bearcat is based on a personal essay I wrote many years ago. It expresses a certain melancholic quirky aesthetic, celebrating colour, music, and all of the fabulous actors within it. This was a wonderful team who worked together joyfully. We were so lucky to film just before the onset of the pandemic. The irony is, of course, we are all now doing our best to survive.
