João Alves (1982, Portugal) has been a film enthusiast ever since he saw Tim Burton’s “Batman” on the silver screen. Upon concluding his studies in Marine Biology, 2005, and disillusioned with the scientific medium, he decided to pursue his passion for cinema and animation. With no art training but thousands of hours watching movies and DVDs extras, he began an animation career that by 2010 enabled him to write, direct, animate, edit and voice the short “Bats in the Belfry” that was screened from Australia to Brazil and won several awards. In the summer of 2011 received a grant to study animation at the University of Texas at Austin and upon returning to Europe directed the trailer for the comic book “The Extraordinary Adventures of Dog Mendonça & Pizzaboy“. In 2013 represented Portugal in DISS at London and in 2017 saw his first feature script “Mindscape” among the selected projects for the European Genre Forum.
