Director Statement

The inspiring credit for Bathroom Humour goes to its leading Actress, co-Writer and co-Producer, Leo award-winning actress Erin Wright. My role was to be the ‘production engine’ that brought Erin’s story idea to life (based on the story of her own experience in a community centre bathroom). We co-wrote the script, collaborated on the storyboards, and she led the casting process – which included Erin playing herself, but as the fictionalized ‘Penny.’ Our vision was to show the stress of having to pee, finding supposed sanctuary, but then the hilarity of everything going wrong. We chose camera framing, used available light, and limited but motivated production lighting to support Penny’s emotional journey from anxiety to relief. The use of a Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K provided the compact ability to film in a washroom, but still deliver a great looking image. A subscription sound library provided a perfect piece of music to support the ‘comedically goofiness’ of Penny’s experience.
