Director Statement

For decades, I had not witnessed the Tbourida. Yet the sound of gunpowder, the tension of the horses, the suspended silence before the charge remained somewhere inside me, buried but intact. Life carried me elsewhere, across countries, across years.
I returned home because of a death. In the middle of mourning, I encountered this ritual again, and with it, a forgotten part of myself. Picking up the camera became an instinctive gesture. I was not trying to explain or document the Tbourida. I was searching for a way to inhabit that moment, to hold onto what words could not contain.
BAROUD is a film about return: return to childhood, to memory, to the land, and to the invisible thread connecting generations. It is a film without dialogue because silence, sometimes, carries memory more truthfully than words.
