I spent so much time as a kid creating worlds inside my head to play in. Then I rushed off to college at 15 to study engineering because I believed it would never be possible to bring these dreams to life. 10 years later, after various perspective altering life experiences, I had become restless and desperate to exhale. I made this movie because I am eternally grateful for how cinema has moved me throughout my life; specifically the cathartical experience of seeing things internal to me, externalized on screen. “Baptized by Fire” is my first attempt at reciprocating this love back onto the screen. This movie is an attempt to possibly reinterpret and render meaning to unexplainable circumstances that many Nigerians have personally experienced. At its center it is a story about anxiety, escapism, police brutality & societal alienation, I wanted to communicate that life can continue even after our preconceived notions surrounding it have been permanently altered.
Baptized by Fire is a psychedelic exploration of anxiety, social alienation & the inefficacy of escapism told from the perspective of individuals operating within the extremes of society.
