Graham Burdick is a filmmaker specializing in directing and editing, and a graduate from Brooklyn College's class of 2024. Their debut short film, "Banana Boy" (2024), highlights a uniquely vibrant style by incorporating animations and an original score. Graham also has experience producing narrative shorts and in post-production for documentary features.
I am passionate about storytelling and its ability to uplift people. As a director-editor at heart and a film/digital design student, I believe that film should be as rich in story as it is in style.
With Banana Boy, I wanted to depict the world as I see it, with all its messy vibrancy and fleeting urgency. By blending musical rom-com tendencies with tense office drama, I wanted to shine a light on the joy that we tend to miss out on as we go through our daily lives. The main character, Eric, pushes through intense job interviews and nerve-inducing parties to channel his passion for dance and attempts to charm everyone around him.
For me, the journey speaks to an ideal for the world; that eventually we can see the absurdity of everyday life for what it is, to set aside our differences and come together through our shared humanity. I hope that the emotional depth found in the lighting, performances, cinematography, music, and so much more provided by the wonderful collaborators I was lucky enough to work with conveys this as beautifully as I think it does.
