Rodrigue Wembi Ghenda is a first time filmmaker from East London. He has several years working on film sets with companies such as Ridley Scott Associates Films. Bakari is the first of a series of films he is making which reflect his own life experiences.
This is a film about change.
Bakari is a young man on the cusp of adulthood. He's anxious about entering the next stage of life, overwhelmed by conflicting forces of possibility and limitation.
We follow him on a day in which he encounters influential people - his friends, teachers, foes - who all tell him what they think he should do.
The film is inspired by the myth of Faust, the alchemist who sells their soul to the devil in exchange for all worldly knowledge and pleasure. Like Faust, Bakari grows restless with his limits and is pushed to the edge in search of solutions.
