BUFF[ED]

Ever-fascinated by the emotional and physical intent behind tagging and graffiti, in this digital EDition, BUFF refers to the painting out of illegal art. The constant battle between risk-taking public art mark-makers and land owners will forever wage, with the art reappearing faster than it can be BUFF[ED] out.

While mastering the art of flaneuring, an assortment of thoughts, ideas, words and poetry emerge as I document the BUFF[ED] walls. I’ve reassigned these chronicled words, associating them with a BUFF[ED] wall. You might ponder the BUFF[ED] out words now buried deep within history, while contemplating my musings. Through video and digital poetry a re-birthing of ideas transpires, and the BUFF[ED] walls are given new life.

Director Biography - Sioux Tempestt

In addition to studio-based works, Sioux Tempestt's practice employs a multi-disciplinary approach, generating mural, public, sculptural and digital content which meaningfully contributes to its context.

Traversing across different mediums and scale of works enables Sioux to push creative boundaries. Through materiality and physicality, her expressive abstractions intuitively fuse colour and form. The dynamic effects achieved from these techniques evolve from natural emotive responses to her immediate inner-city surroundings. The use of aerosol is influenced by urban art and provides an exciting immediacy.

In the public realm, Sioux produces large scale contemporary mural and sculptural artworks. The works aim to integrate the built form and natural environment through thought provoking design. Sioux also composes music, video and writing. She is signed under artist name ABSTRKT XNOIS to the Sub Rosa music label, out through Sony The Orchard on all streaming platforms.

Sioux has been involved in numerous group shows and held 10 solo exhibitions. Her work is held in public and private collections. Sioux's music video DIRTY BEATS was selected and premiered at the 2022 Revelation Perth International Film Festival.

I have a curious nature and love experimenting with different mediums and new technology. I enjoy the immediacy of spraying aerosol and painting with brushes and rollers; the creativity of writing, video and photography; the rush of making music.
