SENZA CORPO

Daniela is a confused and problematic girl. She realizes she doesn’t like her body. Maybe she wishes she were a man. As a result she changes identity on the web, posing as Daniele; she meets girls, tells her phantasies, which remain just virtual. Daniela goes into therapy. She tells her story to Doctor Romanini. She announces having met Roberta, a nice girls she has invited to a date, always hiding behind Daniele’s profile. The story between the two girls ends up with an unpredicted epilogue.

Bodyless – Director’s notes

Daniela, the main character, is a girl with a masculine look. She feels prisoner of a body she considers as an enemy, a stranger, a mere “shell”, to the point that she denies it and repress all the natural needs her body requires, such as eating, moving, dressing up. Every inclination to pleasure, linked to physical sensations, to personal care, making a sport, beauty routine is totally denied... Even buying clothes. Her body is just an envelope in which she lives reluctantly. She doesn’t want to take care of it in any way and, most of all, she consider it as an enemy.

Daniela lives in a world of her own, experiences everything carelessly; the events don’t interest her, even the personal ones: the university exams gone badly have no importance to her; she lives in a sort of omnipotence against anything that happens daily in her life.
She tells whatever she wants, she has no contact with the real world, but only with the virtual one. The she starts opening up with friends, with her study-mates. She likes other women, she makes a sort of outing, she opens up to other and finally she sees a chance to change.
She begins a progressive coming out of the isolation sphere and gets close, for the first time, to her peers. .
She starts to have psychotherapy sessions, casually, following the suggestion of her housemate, Caterina, her true friend. The success of the therapy is visible starting from the once denied body needs, and getting to the discovery of a desire to take care of herself, that before didn’t exist.
She starts going to the gym, to buy clothes she likes, to eat better and with attention to the quality of the food, she recovers the love for her body that becomes an important part of herself: a part to consider, to watch, to admire, to take care of, to protect.
Her body is not an enemy anymore.
Daniela won’t recover from all her diseases in the course of the film, but it is suggested that she has begun a path that will lead her to take consciousness of her gender and of her sexual orientation.
