Writer Biography - Brett Howard Nelson

Brett Howard Nelson is a multi-award-winning screenwriter with 130+ Official Selections with 80+ wins from film festivals around the world. He has a diverse artistic background in photography, graphic design, and creative writing. Brett began screenwriting in the late 90s after his transition from acting.

Not long after, he attained management with his first feature screenplay, The Black Dahlia Mystery, a haunting, mysterious whodunit tale about Beth Short and her infamous 1947 murder. In the early 2000s, his scripts received "first look" reads with MGM Studios.

After a 17-year break from the Hollywood industry, Brett returned to his long, lost passion for screenwriting in early 2021, which lead to an unexpected, unplanned, successful run on the 2021 and 2022 film festival circuit with several short and feature screenplays. He was declared Breakthrough Screenwriter of the Year winner from the 5th Annual New York Film Awards for his indie comedy screenplay, A Night at the Drive-In. A few hours later, his short screenplay, The Letter, won Best Short Screenplay in the 2022 Paris International Film Festival. And his success continues on the 2023 film fest circuit with new feature works.

Brett is a native of Seattle, Washington, and lives in the Seattle area. Currently, he is seeking reputable management and agent representation for his current and upcoming feature-length screenplays.
