Writer Biography - KATRINA JAXSON

A native of Santa Barbara, California, Kat is an award-winning screenwriter with a genuine passion for story-telling which started in her early years. Kat’s first poem where she wrote of her adventures of being “Wonder Woman” with a chocolate lasso, was published by Santa Barbara News-Press when she was in the third grade, subsequently leading to colorful stories about aliens, government cheese, and her exploits as a Girl Scout. It’s no wonder for the last 14 years Kat has worked for HBO, the leading premium television network, which has afforded her the opportunity to hone her screenwriting skills and create characters and stories that are captivating, multi-dimensional, clever, and most importantly unforgettable.

Writer Statement

"BIH Please!" is a comedy about self-reflection. Often times we as people compare ourselves to others in an effort to deflect stereotypes that society has created. Who wants to be labeled the "angry black girl," when they can be the "W.I.G.G." (white, irresistible, gay guy)? Sorry but most of my white, gay friends are either chick or dick magnets depending on how you look at it. Nevertheless, labels only matter when you internalize them. This script is about the misadventures of a girl name Keisha that believes she can get further in life as a gay, white man than a perceived "angry black girl." She's missing one important factor, you can't change the outside without changing the inside and expect a different result.
