BHOR
'Bhor' is the story of Budhni, a girl from the Musahar community in Bihar who dreams to pursue her education. But this is no simple feat, as girls her age face familial and societal pressure to get married. As the story unfolds, it comes to light that she was married off before the legal age to marry in India - a tucked away glimpse into the realities of living a Musahar woman’s life.
Stranded between her desire to study and the pressure to get married, Budhni silently begins to accept defeat. But Sugan’s proposal brings her hope, as he promises to support her decision to study further. It is only after the marriage that she comes face-to-face with her next challenge – the absence of a Toilet! Now every morning made her anxious and was she fighting not only for education but also for sanitation.

Born and raised in Assam, KAMAKHYA NARAYAN SINGH studied in Delhi and works out of Mumbai. He considers his travels — over 40 countries as well as every corner of India — his greatest asset in understanding and communicating thoughts and stories. He has directed many travel shows and documentaries, as well as many corporate films for top brands and NGOs. He has just completed his first feature, Dawn (Bhor), which is currently doing the international festival circuit. Kamakhya is a born storyteller who marries content, emotion, logic, visuals and sound in a way that leaves a long-lasting mark on audiences.
As travel documentary filmmaker and as a student of Social Work (education), I had the chance to travel the world and India extensively. I got chance to interact with people from indigenous cultures. They have a different understanding of the society - they may be poor, but they are happy, there are conflicts but they are not complicated. 'Bhor' deals with one such community called the Musahars in Bihar. They are simple people and our story is about how they react to the modern campaign on Sanitation and Toilets in India. We have continuously made an effort to keep the execution and feel as true as possible, to portray the reality of their lives.
