“Bear on Ice" follows fearless 9-year-old Pippa on a wild odyssey. Living in a caravan near a gravel pit, she scans the police radio daily for clues about her missing dog. As she hunts for the dog’s kidnapper, she encounters oddball neighbors and a mysterious sheriff along the way.

Till Kleinau is a German auteur filmmaker recognized for his distinctive and imaginative style. He earned a degree in Digital Film Arts from the International Film School (ifs) in Cologne, specializing in directing. His short film, Mono No Aware, showcases his talent for blending genres and creating visually striking, narrative-driven content. The film earned him the prestigious German Camera Award in 2021. Kleinau's approach to filmmaking is characterized by a strong emphasis on atmosphere and world-building, crafting immersive experiences that transport audiences into the unique realms of his imagination.

Director Statement

“Bear on Ice" takes spirited 9-year-old Pippa on a wild, neo-fairy tale odyssey captured in the retro style of the 90s and filmed in 4:3 format. This quirky adventure unfolds mostly from the perspective of its protagonist, blending humor with the boundless creativity only a child could have. My goal was to craft a short film that entertains both kids and adults, sparking imagination with its whimsical, playful ideas.
