Director Biography - Sean Steinberg, Matthew Jankes

Sean Steinberg:

Sean Steinberg is a writer and director, born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa.

He graduated from the University of Witwatersrand with a BA Honours in English Literature and Philosophy, as well as an MA in Film and TV. In addition to this, he studied screenwriting at the Los Angeles Film School. Since then, he has written on some of South Africa's premier telenovelas and dramas.

Of late, however, he has turned his focus to directing. Both his directorial debut, ‘(S)he’, an hour long TV movie, as well as his multiple award winning short film (best director, screenplay, and film at kykNET’s 2018 Silwerskermfees), ‘Axis Mundi’, are currently doing the festival circuit. He acted as writer, director, and producer on both of these films.

This natural born storyteller’s passion is to tell intimate stories that happen everyday to everyday people; stories that inspire thought and reflection; stories that make us laugh and cry; stories that entertain and capture the small moments reminding us of what it means to be alive.

Matthew Jankes:

Matthew Jankes studied through National Film and Television School in the UK. In 2009 he was awarded the Africa First grant by Focus Features. The subsequent short, Umkhungo, went on to screen at international festivals and win multiple awards, including a SAFTA for best short film. Matthew has subsequently worked extensively in television drama. His latest short, Axis Mundi, won best script, director and film at the 2018 KykNet Silwerskerm Fees. Matthew is represented in London by Casarotto Ramsay and Associates.
