About "Aubade"
In the fall of 2021, I lost a family member to suicide. The shock was so overwhelming that I didn’t really feel anything right away, and when all of my feelings came rushing in, I tuned them out. When we lose someone unexpectedly, no words can describe our sudden emptiness. As a result, I’ve spent a long time, and still spend time, getting lost in my feelings of uncontrollable sadness, anger, and confusion.
While it is still easy to get lost in the grief, I’ve been able to find solace in music. I play it. I write it. I listen to it. I do all of these things to try and understand the person I lost, to connect with him through the art form we shared. This medium of expression has helped give me closure and is a key part of why I wanted to make my own original score for this film project.
I hope that the power of art will shine through in this film as we explore how, through overwhelming loss, love and connection lives on.
